The one who wants the power should not have it

In Finnish, they say that politics means taking care of things that belong to us all. I'm not a political person and usually don't really care who has the power, as long as I feel safe and can feed my family, and get medical help in case of emergency. Now the growing national debt makes it necessary to find ways to save money, and it is never easy to decide where to cut if you're choosing between medical care, schools, roads, elderly care or unemployment benefit - all important things. These are tough decisions, but the reason why I choose to discuss politics this once is the on-going presidential election in the U.S. 
The country claims to be the leading democracy in the world, and they call their president the leader of the free world. I do remember when one of my English professors (born and bred in Britain) told that Britain is not a democracy, due to the two-party-system. Another professor from the East Germany gave a lecture right after the wall had been opened, sounding really like he had wished Hitler to show up again. In the meantime, we also had another German

professor who was ashamed of being German because of the nazis, though he was born after the war. Europeans seem to understand that history is made by humans and consists of good choises and bad, some of which were the only options at the time.
In comparison to those examples, the Americans appear to be brain-washed with the divine knowledge that they live in the land of the free - with school shootings, scanty social security, the rich people in control and all-in-all being the world police. I can't think of another country where a presidential candidate would want to emphasize that he's filthy rich and is

known as a ruthless business man - where else would these be favourable characteristics? A lot can be said about the female candidate as well, but her worst sin seems to be standing by her man, whereas the business man boasts openly with his derogatory opinion on practically everyone but himself. You may think that this has nothing to do with non-Americans, but unfortunately we share the planet with them and their nuclear weapons, if they should get too excited about being great again.

In the old days, leaders could do a lot and not make it to the news - the old Soviet leader who liked his vodka a bit too much, and several presidents and kings (queens, even popes) have had their

share of secret lovers, corruption and tyrannic acts without consequences. Nowadays, the media tells everything, not only about the politician but also his family and anybody around, and even a good

person can see his/her career go down the toilet because of something that has nothing to do with political abilities. The only exception is Mr. Trump who can do or say whatever he wants, and still there are people who see him as a saviour. Or is it true that even "potus" is just a front man and the power lies somewhere else, and now they want Donald to be the icon? Illuminati confirmed...
I also find it odd that a candidate must raise an incredible amount of money to even have a chance -

so there are many capable, righteous persons who just don't happen to know the right people. Estonia got a new president just days ago, and I hadn't even known they were choosing one, whereas even little children have heard about the huge machinery (or theatrical act) where the Americans vote for a new leader. Many people claim that the politicians are just hungry for power, but someone must make the decisions, and we can't go back to the ancient Greek system, either. At this point I feel my inner feminist waking up and suppose it's time to let go of the subject - maybe we'll get back to that some day. Right now we are living in interesting times, just like the old Chinese curse imprecates. Enjoy the ride, and remember to get the popcorns before the next debate!
Suomessa on sanonta, että politiikka on yhteisten asioiden hoitamista. Minä en ole poliittisesti valveutunut enkä juuri piittaa kenellä on valtaa, kunhan tunnen oloni turvalliseksi, saan lapset ruokittua ja lääkärinapua on saatavilla hädän tullen. Nyt yhä kasvava valtionvelka pakottaa säästämään, ja valinnat ovat vaikeita, kun rinnakkain asetetaan terveyspalvelut, koulut, tiet, vanhustenhuolto ja työttömyysturva. Syy siihen että puhun tämän kerran politiikasta on kuitenkin meneillään olevat USA:n presidentinvaalit.
USAsanoo olevansa maailman johtava demokratia, ja he kutsuvat presidenttiään vapaan maailman johtajaksi. Muistan erään englannin professorin (syntyperäinen britti), jonka mukaan Britannia ei ole demokratia koska siellä on kaksipuoluejärjestelmä. Toinen, itäsaksalainen professori piti luennon juuri Berliinin muurin avaamisen jälkeen ja kuulosti siltä, kuin olisi toivonut Hitlerin ilmaantuvan takaisin. Toisaalta meillä oli myös toinen saksan professori, joka häpesi olla saksalainen natsien vuoksi, vaikka oli syntynyt vasta sodan jälkeen. Eurooppalaiset tuntuvat ymmärtävän, että historia koostuu ihmisten päätöksistä, hyvistä ja huonoista, ja monille niistä ei aikoinaan ollut vaihtoehtoa.
Amerikkalaiset sen sijaan on ilmeisesti aivopesty jumalaisella tiedolla että he elävät vapauden kansakunnassa - kaupan päälle tulee vain kouluammuskelut, surkea sosiaaliturva, rikkaiden harvainvalta ja tehtävä maailmanpoliisina. Missä muualla presidenttiehdokas korostaisi olevansa sikamaisen rikas ja tunnettu häikäilemättömänä bisnesmiehenä - missä nämä olisivat tavoiteltavia ominaisuuksia kansan johtajalle? Naisehdokkaastakin löytyy sanomista, mutta hänen suurin syntinsä tuntuu olevan pysyminen miehensä rinnalla, kun taas liikemies kerskuu avoimesti sillä miten hän halveksii käytännössä kaikkia muita paitsi itseään. Ajattelet ehkä että se ei koske meitä ei-amerikkalaisia, mutta valitettavasti olemme samalla planeetalla heidän ja ydinaseiden kanssa, jos he sattuisivat innostumaan liikaa uudelleenlöydetystä suuruudestaan.
Entisaikoina johtajat selvisivät monesta joutumatta uutisiin - vanha neuvostojohtaja joka piti vähän liikaa votkasta, monet presidentit ja kuninkaat (kuningattaret, jopa paavit) ovat harrastaneet salarakkaita, korruptiota ja tyranniaa ilman mitään seuraamuksia. Nykyään media kertoo kaiken, ei vain poliitikosta vaan myös perheestä ja kaikista lähipiirissä, ja moni hyvä tyyppi on nähnyt uransa valuvan viemäriin asioiden takia, jotka eivät mitenkään liity poliittisiin kykyihin. Ainoa poikkeus on herra Trump, joka voi sanoa ja tehdä mitä huvittaa, ja silti on ihmisiä joille hän on pelastaja. Vai onko niin, että jopa "potus" on vain keulakuva ja valta on jossain muualla, ja nyt on Donaldin vuoro? Salaliitto vahvistettu... (potus=president of the u.s. eli usa:n presidentti).
Minusta on hölmöä, että ehdokkaan pitää kerätä järjetön määrä rahaa jotta saa edes pienen mahdollisuuden, koska se tarkoittaa että on paljon kyvykkäitä ja oikeamielisiä ihmisiä jotka vain eivät tunne oikeita ihmisiä. Viro sai hiljattain uuden presidentin enkä edes tiennyt että heillä on valinta meneillään, kun taas jopa pikkulapset ovat kuulleet valtavasta koneistosta (ja suuresta teatterista) jonka kautta Amerikka äänestää uuden johtajan. Monet väittävät että poliitikot ovat vain vallanhaluisia, mutta jonkun täytyy tehdä päätökset, emmekä voi palata antiikin Kreikan systeemiin. Tässä kohtaa sisäinen feministini herää ja lienee paras päättää aiheen käsittely - ehkä palaamme tähän joskus. Juuri nyt elämme mielenkiintoisia aikoja, kuten vanha kiinalainen kirous toivottaa.
