No Four More Years

Four years ago, I was profoundly shocked with the US election result, and even more so because the new leader wouldn't even pretend to care about anything else than himself. Now the nightmare is over, the clown surprisingly left the building without a fist fight. The nuclear codes have a new commander-in-chief, and we can focus on beating the pandemic.

Joe Biden is my new favourite Grandpa. Compared with what the orange clown has been accused of, who cares if Joe has touched a woman's shoulder? There's plenty of pictures of him hugging men - he's friendly, compassionate and nice - a decent person who loves his family and thinks about other people. 

Biden promised to bring back the America we Europeans love to criticize - the world police, the big brother, the example in good and bad - and it's so much better than the trumpian chaos. A few words from him sound more presidential than anything his predecessor managed to say in four years. On the top of that, his staff and administration is very diverse, beginning with a qualified VP.

I liked how they used flags to represent the missing crowds, the former presidents seemed to enjoy themselves - and people even spoke with the Pences! The ceremony was for unity, normalcy and decency, and it was definitely for the better that the Trumps weren't there. Good riddance for them!

The last picture stands for the moment Joseph R. Biden became the 46th president of the US - at noon Eastern time, Jan the 20th 2021. He's about to fight a pandemic, an economy crisis, fix a divided country and lots of problems created in the last four years, besides all the other things normally expected from a president. I wish him luck with the task, and happy years in the White House - have you noticed how his smile actually enlightens a room?

Neljä vuotta sitten olin shokissa Yhdysvaltain vaalituloksesta, ja vielä enemmän kun uusi johtaja ei edes teeskennellyt välittävänsä muista kuin itsestään. Nyt painajainen on ohi, pelle yllätti ja lähti ilman nyrkkitappelua. Ydinasekoodeilla on uusi komentaja, ja voidaan keskittyä pandemian hoitamiseen.

Joe Biden on uusi lempivaarini. Kun katsoo mistä oranssia pelleä on syytetty, kuka piittaa jos Joe koski naisen olkapäähän? Hänestä on paljon kuvia halaamassa miehiä, hän on ystävällinen, myötätuntoinen ja mukava - hyvä tyyppi, joka rakastaa perhettään ja ottaa muut huomioon.

Virkaanastujaispuheessa Biden lupasi tuoda takaisin Amerikan, jota me eurooppalaiset mielellämme moitimme - maailmanpoliisin, isoveljen, esimerkin hyvässä ja pahassa - ja se on parempi kuin trumppilainen sekasorto. Tarvittiin vain muutama lause, ja hän oli presidentillisempi kuin edeltäjänsä koskaan. Lisäksi hänen hallintotiiminsä, pätevästä varapresidentistä alkaen, on monimuotoinen.

Pidin siitä, miten liput edustivat puuttuvaa yleisöä, entiset presidentit näyttivät viihtyvän - ihmiset jopa puhuivat Pencen pariskunnalle! Seremonia loi yhtenäisyyttä ja normaaliutta, ja muistutti soveliaisuudesta, ja oli vain hyvä että Trumpit loistivat poissaolollaan. Tervemenoa koko porukalle!

Viimeinen kuva on hetkestä, jolloin Joseph R. Bidenista tuli Yhdysvaltain 46. presidentti  - keskipäivällä Yhdysvaltain itärannikon aikaa 20.1.2021. Hän kohtaa pandemian, talouskriisin, jakautuneen kansakunnan ja korjailee kuluneen neljän vuoden jälkiä, kaiken sen muun ohella mitä presidentiltä yleensä odotetaan.
